In late November and early December 2018, we performed our multilingual version of Shakespeare's Henry V at Centre Fries, Fri-Art and the Gutenberg Museum. We were lucky enough to play to three full houses and actually had to haul in more chairs (or, in one case, tables) in order to fit all our audience members. A warm thank you to everyone who came along!! Here are some pictures of the different dress rehearsals and performances... On May 17th, we had the great pleasure to perform selections from Henry V at Fribourg's own Centre Fries. The atmosphere was great and our sock puppets proved to be a great addition to the Shakespearean play. performanceDRESS REHEARSALenglish
On May 17th we are holding a workshop at Centre Fries in Fribourg, presenting the latest stage of our work making Shakespeare's Henry V suitable for Switzerland. After getting rid of royalty and the church in the play last year, this year we have also replaced the entire enemy army with sock puppets. Come along to find out why, and even have the chance to make a sock puppet of your own! (English surtitles will be provided and the performance itself will be a mix of French, German, Italian and English.)

After the success of Love's Labour's Lost, we were making plans to put on another Shakespeare play the following year. Thus, we decided to create a Facebook page and, obviously, we needed a name. Elisabeth, Thomas and Diana did some funny brainstorming and we'd like to share some of Thomas' suggestions with you:
Sadly they were all too long and probably only funny to insiders. Therefore, we decided, with a heavy heart, to take another shorter name... and here we are: SWISS STAGE BARDS!
Finally, after London and Lausanne, we performed in the Aula Magna of the University of Fribourg!
Our show contained scenes of Love's Labour's Lost, The Merchant of Venice and our upcoming piece Henry V. Of course, we performed in all four official Swiss National languages and in some Swiss German dialects. Read more... Here's the trailer for our new multilingual Shakespeare production: The Merchant of Venice. And here are some behind the scenes pictures from the trailer shoot: For our new production, "The Merchant of Venice", the Swiss Stage Bards spent five days of intense rehearsing in the Kiental. |
